Excited as I am? Well, I’m super excited to start my new dropshipping store and hope that you’re also excited.

But, before I start, I would like to tell you some more things about Dropshipping and how it works!

Dropshipping is one of the best businesses which we could start in 2019 and the best part about it is it’s an online business and we don’t need to create any physical inventory, warehouse or office in order to start our business.

You might be thinking that, hey Anujeet, What do you mean by we don’t need to create any physical inventory? If we don’t have inventory, how are we going to fulfill the orders?

Well, that’s what we call Dropshipping! And if you have those questions, it means you don’t know about Dropshipping. Don’t worry, I will tell you everything this about it and that’s why I called this blog a Beginners Guide.

What is Dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result, the merchant never sees or handles the product.

Let me give you an example for your better understanding :

Let’s say Jhon is going to start his Dropshipping store.

He opens an online store named as HomeBuzz where he is going to sell home accessories using Shopify.

(Shopify – It’s one of the most popular and the best platform to start your dropshipping business).

He adds products on his store from a reseller in China by adding some margins so that he will make a profit.

After a week, Jhon gets an order of a Wall Clock from Canada.

Now, Jhon has forwarded the order to the reseller in China using simple software on his store.

Once Jhon forwarded the order, the reseller in China is now going to deliver the order to the customer.

That’s it! You see how simple dropshipping is!

  • 1). Domain The first invest to start your dropshipping business is your domain. A .com domain will cost you something around $10 (Rs.700).
  • 2). Shopify Store Setup Now, you get 14 days free trial on your new Shopify Account, and after your free trial, the basic plan will cost you $29 (Rs.2,082.87) per month.
  • 3). Advertisement We can say that Advertisement is the brain of our dropshipping business. Without advertisement, our store is nothing and we even can’t able to get a single sale.
    Now, the best way for advertising our products is on Facebook and the charges will depend on you that how you set up your ads. But, you will at least need $50 (Rs.3600) in order to start getting sales and traffic on your store.

How to Start a Dropshipping Business [Step-by-Step]

We all know that things become a lot easier when we get in Step-by-Step form.

That’s why I’m going to tell you How to Start a Dropshipping Business A to Z in Step-by-Step form. So you could understand better 🙂

1). Step #1 – Choose a niche

Niche is one of the key factors in the success of a dropshipping store. You should have to statically choose your store niche in which you want to sell.

A niche should be like this – Watch Store, Mobile Backcover Store, Home Accessories Store, Car Accessories Store and like that.

Do some research and check your competitions and market demand before choosing a niche.

2). Step #2 – Find a Domain Name

Dome name is again one of the most important things of your Dropshipping Business.

Your domain name should be catchy and attention-seeking. It’s should be easy to remember and short.

Always try to get a brandable domain name which is related to your niche.

Your domain name is also going to be the name of your store, so keep it as effective as possible.

You can use Lean Domain Search to find some good domain names for your dropshipping business/store.

3). Step #3 – Create a Shopify Account

Now, there are many ways by which you can start your dropshipping store but the most popular and the best platform is Shopify.

Shopify is specially designed for Dropshipping and if it’s designed for dropshipping, what better can we get!

You will get 14 days free trial on your new Shopify account and you can cancel your account before 14 days and you will not be charged.

But, in order to make your store live, you have to provide your Credit Card Details!

4). Step #4 – Change your Shopify Account Settings

Once you created your Shopify Account, you have to change the settings of your Shopify Account/Store!

There are many things you have to change in your Shopify account before you proceed further and if you don’t do these settings properly then you might not even get a single sale on your store.

So, what are those changes you have to make on your account?

In Settings, you have to select your TimeZone, Metric Unit, Order ID format, Store Name, Email, Taxes, Shipping Charges, Policies, and many more…

5). Step #5 – Connect your Domain

Now, once you were done with all the above changes, the next thing we have to do is to connect our domain with our store.

Hope you already purchased your domain! If not, the first thing you have to do is to purchase a domain for your new dropshipping store.

We have two options here :

  • You can purchase a domain from GoDaddy or any other Domain Registrar.
  • You can purchase a domain from Shopify (which costs you a little extra.)

According to me, you should buy your domain from GoDaddy as you might save some money. But in the case of money isn’t your problem, you can go with Shopify.

6). Step #6 – Install Oberlo App on your Shopify Store

After completing all the previous steps, it’s time to install the Oberlo App.

Oberlo is basically an app which you can install on your Shopify account and by using Oberlo, you can add products from Alibaba, Aliexpress and other Dropshippers.

It’s the best app and recommended by top dropshipping store owners.

You can install Oberlo app on your Shopify Store by clicking on Apps >> Visit the Shopify App Store button.

Once the Shopify App Store opens, you have to search Oberlo on the search bar.

Click on the Oberlo App and then click on “Add App

7). Step #8 – Do Products Research

Once you add the app to your Shopify store, the Oberlo Dashboard will open automatically from where you can add products to your Store.

But, before we add products to our store, we should do some product research!

Now, what type of research I’m talking about?

Well, you have to do the research for the products which you are going to add into your Shopify store so you know which product has more probability of generating sales.

8). Step #9 – Add Products to your Store

Done with your product research? Well, it’s time for Add products to your store!

It’s way simpler than you ever imagine. You just have to log into your Oberlo Dashboard (Shopify Dashboard >> Apps >> Oberlo).

Once the Oberlo Dashboard opened, you have to click on Search Products available in the left sidebar on the Oberlo Dashboard.

Hover on the product you wanted to add to your store and then click on “Add to Import List”.

Now, add all the products to the import list you wished to add to your Store.

Once you are done with that, click on Import List available on the left sidebar under the Manage Products section.

Now, your import list will open and this is the place from where you move all the products to your store in a single click. But before you import the product. Do change the Prices, Description, Title or variation of the products.

After changing all the details, just click on Import to Store button so that the product will be imported on your Shopify Store.

It’s that simple!

10). Step #10 – Customise your Store

Added all the products to your store? It’s time to customize our store!

If your store doesn’t look good, your 50% of customers are already gone, so your store should look good and be user-friendly.
